Volunteers

'Team Dane'
Are you interested in joining Team Dane? Each member of this team of volunteers brings a different yet necessary aspect of themselves into the rescue to promote the organizations growth, its financial stability and of course the day-to-day care of these gentle giants. Please contact the volunteer coordinator listed below if you are interested in helping in one of the
following areas:
Daily Care
Every day of the year, rain or shine, the daily care of these Danes is our main focus. We clean food and water containers, sweep, provide fresh bedding, exercise, interact and socialize the dogs. Bathing is done on a monthly basis. Our winter times are 7 days a week from 9:30 until 11:30 A.M. Night time care is 7 until 8:30 P.M. and this time is dedicated to playing and
training.
Maintenance
Maintenance may include but not be limited to: mowing weed-whacking, constructing fences, updating the existing living quarters, plumbing etc.
Event Participation
GDRSC participates in several events throughout the year. We pride ourselves on our presentation. Daniel and Kiawah Island as well as several local pet related stores welcome us to show our Danes and educate the public on animal care and nutrition.
Participants in this category must take time to come to the
sanctuary to learn about handling a Dane and to understand our
requirements and principles in order to represent the rescue
properly in public.
Grant Writing
Grant writing is needed for many areas of rescue life which may include but not be limited to building improvements, general healthcare, spay and neutering.
Trainers
Depending on the expertise of the individual, trainers are used for beginning and advanced commands.
Day Trip Volunteers
Once a volunteer knows the art of handling a Great Dane we
allow them to take the dogs off the rescue property for day trips. Our dogs loved to be walked, take car rides and have time away from their normal day to day lives.
Transport
We are always in need of volunteers to do transport to and from vet visits and/or picking up and transporting from a shelter to the rescue. There are many areas a volunteer may be needed that are not listed. If you have a special talent you want to share with us or are interested in any of the aforementioned categories please contact Missy, our Volunteer Coordinator, via email at:
