Sadie & Rosie
The Greater Charleston Emergency clinic contacted us in the Fall of 2003. They had two Great Dane sisters who were hit by a truck with multiple fractures and severe contusions. They were 14 months old. The owners had signed them over to be euthanized. We were asked to rescue them and finance their surgeries. Because of their severe pain the surgeries had to be performed quickly.

Sadie and Rosie were laying in the ER waiting to have surgery when we first saw them.

We chose to try to save Sadie’s leg even though at this point we knew their would be a chance the surgery might fail.

Rosie had multiple fractures but her surgery went well.

Both girls had several gaping wounds

Sadie’s leg after surgery.

For 3 months the girls were confined to crates as their wounds healed.

Soon after surgery the girls could walk on their own but Sadie’s leg was dragging and we were worried.

We decided to bring in a physical therapist to help Sadie.

As the months went by. Sadie learned to hold her leg up but her leg showed all signs of nerve damage that would not be able to be corrected.

Sadie eventually had to have her leg
amputated. She walked the same day of the operation.

Sadie was an inspiration to us all!

Sadie and Rosie went through a very hard time but throughout it all, they always had each other! Because they were born of the same litter, hit by the same truck and both of them were survivors, we decided that these girls would never be separated. It was going to be a long time, almost two years, before the perfect home came along. Look into the success stories and find out where Sadie and Rosie are now.
