After responding to an emergency call on October 21, 2008 we found this 5 month old Great Dane puppy in horrific condition. His body was ravaged with Demodetic mange, it had progressed into a generalized dangerous stage. The infections from the open wounds made him feverish. We could not lift or hug him because he squealed in pain. There was no place on his entire body that did not hurt. He could not even straighten out his body as he struggled to walk on bleeding paws.
This innocent victim was owned by a crack addict. He was tied outside to live. When she was evicted from her home Logan was abandoned to fend for himself.
We rushed him to the emergency hospital where he was given pain relief and healthcare. That night as he lay sleeping I wondered how long it had been since he was warm, since he had a soft bed to sleep on or since anyone cared about him whatsoever. The pain injection allowed Logan to sleep peacefully. We were all thankful.
Each day we see improvements in Logan. It may be months before his body is healed but his little spirit is coming back to life!

Update
We wanted to give everyone a quick update. It has only been three days but Logan is showing great improvements.
Everyday, his skin has to be scrubbed so the fur and dead skin can shed. He is an angel every time. We put coconut oil on his face to soothe his leathery skin. That is what he is licking! His nails have been trimmed so they are no longer cutting into him, his eyes, ears and feet are also being treated. His body has started to stretch out and we hope that continues to improve.
Toys are obviously new to him but he has learned quickly that he likes them!
