Angels
A Memorium for our loved ones
Journey

What a 'Journey' his life was. We are so thankful he had a great family to enjoy his life. We are grateful for his wonderful soul.

Penny Lane
Penny Lane came to the rescue emaciated and frightened of humans. She would army crawl backwards and shake at the mere sight of a person. With the help of a dog named Suzi and a lot of love she learned to trust people. It was an amazing transformation. She taught us forgiveness and courage in the short time we had with her.
God must have needed another star because he called her to heaven. We are grief stricken and our hearts are empty and painful with her loss.
Penny, we miss you and we will never forget you, one day we will see you again but for now fly with the angels and light up the sky for you were always the brightest star while you were here. 05/22/10
Bob

Wednesday 06/17/09 we lost Bob. He had such a wonderful personality and was a personal favorite. He found a great home several months ago and was living the good life. We're very sad and miss him deeply.

Hogan

Two years ago, an angel came into my life. His name was Hogan. He was a special needs Great Dane rescue who had a severe immune disorder. He had such a rough start in life, and at the age of 2, I became his 4th and final home.
He was the mellowest, gentle and most loving soul I had ever met. He taught me so much about dog health care, holistic medicine and nutrition, but more than that, he taught me about nurturing the sick and knowing him made me a better human being. He made me a kinder, gentler person and just being in his presence made me calm and at peace.
Hogan had the funniest “frolic” dance when he was happy…he would run like a rocking horse, kicking his feet out in front, and with a big smile and adoring eyes. You always knew when Hogan was in a good mood, and it always made you smile. He would greet me every morning with a big “belly hug” where he would run up and rub his face in my belly waiting for a hug back from me. For a large dog, he was incredibly “stealthy”, he could sneak in bed at night, and I wouldn’t wake until I would hear a loud snore and open my eyes to find his head next to me on my pillow! No matter how many dogs were in the bed, he always found a way to squeeze in right next to me. And he was incredibly smart. If another dog beat him to the couch to lay their head in my lap, he would run outside and bark…making to other dogs get up to run outside to see what was happening. Then Hogan would run back inside and jump on the couch to put his head in my lap! It worked every time, and always made me snicker. He was such a character!
I lost my dear sweet Hogan last night when he died in my arms of a heart attack. We had just had a great Sunday dinner of chicken and livers and were going outside to potty. Hogan was frolicking next to me with a big smile on his face. I was bare foot, and turned to go get my shoes when I heard a noise. I turned to see Hogan stumbling and falling to the ground. I ran to him and grabbed his head so that it would not hit the concrete. I thought it was a seizure and I was holding and stroking him, telling him it was ok…and to take it easy. In less than 60 seconds he was gone. The necropsy showed he had a congenital defect in both his thymus gland and heart valve. There was nothing that could have saved him. It was his time to go.
There is such a big hole in my heart today…I miss him so much and can’t seem to stop crying. I am sad, but I’m also grateful for many things. I’m thankful that he was in my life. I’m grateful that his passing (all though way too soon) was quick, and that I was there to hold him and help him thru it. I wouldn’t trade anything for the short time we had together…and his spirit will remain with me until I see him again. The rest of the pack was there to see his passing too. They got to say their goodbyes and today is a somber day but I’m keeping the routine as normal as possible and getting extra hugs from the pack as we try to go on with our lives. Rest in peace sweet Hogan…Thank you for sharing your life and love with us. I can’t wait to see you again some day.
Cat
Cee & Dave: Cat, we thank you for the great life you gave him and we miss him...tears are shed here...still
In Loving Memory of Atlas

Atlas entered the world on 12-30-02 in Decatur, Alabama. My aunt was friends with his mama's mama and when Atlas turned 7 weeks old and Aunty took him to live with her in preparation for our arrival to pick him up. On, February 25, 2003, one day after my husband and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary, we pulled up into the driveway and there was our new baby gripping my aunt's shoulder with his big old paws. It was love at first sight!
He gave us much joy and much love over the years as he enjoyed socialization days at Doggie Daycare, vacations, chasing sand and waves at the beach every year, and cuddling with his kitties on the couch.
In March of 2005, he helped welcome an 11 month male Merle into our home. "Theodore" was quickly renamed Cole and the two became steadfast buddies and enjoyed many days at the dog park, beach, and lounging on their couches. Atlas even taught Cole how to drink water from the bathroom sink.
At 3 years old, Atlas was diagnosed with Addison's Disease. After diagnosis and getting his meds adjusted, he was quickly back to chasing sand, swimming at the beach or dog park, and enjoying walks with his brother. Throughout his 3rd year he began to put on weight inspite of food cutbacks and by the time he turned 4 he had blood in his urine. Finally at the beginning of his 4th year he was diagnosed with hypothyroid and started on L-Thyroxine and his weight was back to normal in a month. That same year he had an ultrasound of his bladder that revealed bladder stones and an echocardiogram showed Dilated Cardiomyopathy. No actions other than "monitoring".
In January of 2008, right after he turned 5 he had surgery to remove the bladder stones b/c one day on a walk he just couldn't urinate anymore. After his surgery, he made a full recovery and once again enjoyed time at the beach, dog park, walks in the neighborhood and naps on the couch. In September of 08, my husband and I bought a horse and Cole and Atlas soon began enjoying trotting along side the horses on trail rides and hanging out at the farm playing with the farm dog.
Sadly, Atlas' heart condition suddenly caught up with him on Feb. 26, 2009 when he went into atrial fibrillation. His new cardiologist began him on DiltiazemER on 2/28/09 after evalutation of his ER EKG over the phone. On March 2nd, he was seen in person by his new cardiologist and was also put on Pimobendan and Enalapril. Lasix was added, but only as needed.
Our hopes were raised as he took his meds with no problems and we waited for his heartrate to begin to drop and his rhythm to get more regular. His energy level never fell and the fire in his eyes remained. He even nudged his collar to tell me he still wanted to go with me to feed the horses. On Wednesday, March 4th, he enjoyed time in the pasture with just me and my horse. According to the animal communicator this is something he wanted more of...one on one time with Mom.
On March 5th, 2009 Atlas entered into eternal rest at 10pm with his Aunty by his side. I rushed home from work as soon as she called me. It was sudden and it was quick and took everyone by surprise, but we are all grateful that he didn't suffer.
I am grateful that he was at home on his couch. I am grateful he never reached a time when he couldn't enjoy life and do what he desired to do. I am grateful that Aunty was with him in the end as she was there in the beginning. Atlas was a blessing to everyone he met. He touched SO many lives in his 6 years. He truly lived up to his name as he held the world on his shoulders in more than one way. We love you Atlas and will miss you dearly. Your memory will forever be alive and you will ALWAYS hold a special place in our hearts. Daddy sends love, leans, kisses, and rubs on your nose from overseas and is sorry he couldn't be here to say good-bye. He'll miss laying on the couch with you and your head in his lap.
We love you Blue Eye. Thank you for choosing us. Thank you for holding up our world as you did...you are truly an amazing being and a beautiful blessing we were given. You truly prove God's love for us. We love you forever.
Atlas was loved by many, his friends and family have donated money in his honor to GDRSC. Thank you Atlas!
Moses

On 9/19/2008 we lost Moses. A sweet soul that we had the pleasure to know, but much too short of a time. A beautiful, loving boy that this rescue has seen few like. We're very sad and we miss him deeply. God bless his soul.

Romeo

Many years ago, a beautiful young girl named Lexi came to the rescue with her mom. She fell in love with an adult male Dane named Romeo. It was love at first sight for Lexi!
She came and participated in training classes and we saw her dedication to him. Romeo was being kept as an outside dog before rescue and he needed a family and a home. Lexi and her family gave him that and much more. Romeo has left us after suffering from a brain tumor but his memory and his love will always be in our hearts.
Angus

On 5/27/08 @ 4:14 am we lost our Angus to an obstruction. We're very distraught here at the rescue. He was a lovable, playful and gentle soul. He will be greatly missed by his brother Apollo, his sister Daisy - both now in wonderful homes, and all of us that knew him. God bless his young soul. A sad day here. We love you & miss you very much.

Bandit

Bandit was a Christmas present for a brother and sister 12 years ago. Imagine their surprise to find such a cute boy waiting for them that morning! It was their favorite Christmas to this day. During his lifetime, Bandit was a loving, loyal companion to his whole family. In his memory, his family has donated money to help our Danes. What a lovely way to celebrate his unforgettable life!
Cinnamon

Cinnamon came to us from Phoenix Doberman Rescue. She was found pregnant with a broken hip in the middle of a drug district. She was daddy’s baby for ten years until cancer took her from us. Gary said “The only time Cinnamon broke my heart, was when she left me”. We miss her very much.

Reb

Nero's Rebel Son
After the loss of their beloved Dane, Jack at age twelve, Tammy and Roy knew they wanted the love of another Dane but he would have big shoes to fill.
Nero’s Rebel Son was born on June 11, 2000 never knowing that he had a special family traveling 17 hours to choose him or did he? As soon as the couple arrived he chewed Tammy’s hair and kissed both of them profusely taking attention away from his litter mates!
As a puppy he proved to be well-behaved, never destroying the first thing and housetraining in two days. He had his own room decorated in Scooby-Do and even a border with dogs in baseball caps (his dad was the son of a NY Yankee).
His parents marked his rapid growth on a chart and preserved his puppy teeth.
Reb had the classic puppy Dane bunny hop but he never grew out of it. His mom and dad would say “SomeBunny loves me”. Where Jack was regal and dignified, Reb was the jester of the courtyard! Reb shared his family with two dogs, two cats and two horses. His favorite foods were seafood, spaghetti and yogurt. One fateful day Reb broke a hind toe. He recovered fully but developed septicemia and not knowing if the infection had spread to his spine and despite antibiotics and numerous vet visits Reb had to be assisted when he walked with a sling. He passed on July 27, 2007 and Tammy and Roy knew that Jack was there helping Reb over the Rainbow Bridge. One day the whole family will reunite but until then Reb is surely
keeping everyone in heaven laughing and Jack is watching over him.
We would like to thank Reb’s family for donating his sling for the care of Macy Grey after she has her operation.
Palmer

Palmer was the first family member Susan and Dave Killoran added to their pack. A 185 pound Boston Mantle, he frightened quite a few passers by, but was actually very gentle and respectful. At 8 years old he sustained a back injury and passed away suddenly. The friends of Susan and Dave are pleased to make a contribution to this rescue operation in memory of Palmer, and we offer our most sincere sympathies to his grieving family members.
Maxx

One day many years ago, Maxx showed up at the doorstep of a woman named Lisa. Some things were meant to be and this is one of those things!
Maxx only weighed 73 pounds on that fateful day. His weight increased to 140 pounds under the loving care of his new mom. He had made a bond with Lisa that would never be broken until the day she held him and said goodbye.
During his lifetime, he helped his mom overcome a divorce,
her children growing up and leaving home and the deaths of her father and brother. He was the source of much joy and is described to be loyal, distinguished, devoted and loving.
In his memory, his aunt and uncle have made a monetary donation.
Thanks to all of you who loved Maxx and many thanks to Maxx for helping his extended canine family at Great Dane Rescue of S.C.
Gracie

She “graced” our lives for 14 years and we will always love her.
